Edges are a fascinating and complex subject, yet they offer both logical and creative solutions for conveying form, depth, atmosphere, and compositional rhythm. This is a two part lecture and demonstration video lesson. In Part I, we explore how the concept of edges has evolved throughout art history and examine the two main types of edges, their characteristics, and their role in creating the illusion of form, space, depth, and atmosphere. We also discuss how we process visual information and how this can help us create a more realistic visual experience in our paintings through the use of edges. Additionally, we touch on the importance of edges in composition and how they contribute to the overall impact of a painting. In Part II, I demonstrate the differences in edges on opaque versus transparent objects, techniques for softening edges, and how to open edges to integrate forms into space. Additionally, I discuss how edges influence the flow of light, guiding the viewer’s eye through a composition. I hope you’ll enjoy this lesson! Happy painting! Happy learning! Included in this lesson: 2 Instructional Videos (Part 1 & 2, Total Duration: 2 hrs) Unlimited access to the lesson.
